Tsetsilia Tsypina
I have been making artist books for the past 15 years.
In my work I am investigating the concepts of ancestry and historical lineage, continuity of tradition informing innovation, family dynamics through craft. I start by writing in my journals, contemplating those fleeting thoughts in dialogue with myself. My themes are often connected to family history and latest events. Subsequently, many pages in my books
are accompanied by photographs from the old family albums.
The cornerstone of my creative pursuits is handcraft. My studio practice includes works on paper, drawings, paintings, photographs, sand and gesso reliefs, small plaster sculptures, twisted wire, spun paper sculptures, collages with eggshells, gold leaf, hand-knit pages, and of course life-size 3-d shapes.
