Robert Convery
To begin: I start with a spark. Then I do the preliminaries: structure, color schemes, and gradations. Then I let go of my mind, dive in, and don't know what I am doing until I am doing it. I know what I end with, but it is never what I started with. The title almost always comes last. I have no visual arts training, save what I have taught myself and have observed in others. I have a huge musical training as a composer of principally vocal music. The play of form, color, and line on the picture plane have direct parallels with the principles of musical composition, and the more I create visually, the more my compositional process shifts and enhances itself wonderfully.
