Michelle O'Connell
Michelle O’Connell was born in New Jersey but lived in and traveled to many different places throughout her life, including spending four years in China. Her experiences and interactions inspire her paintings. Using layers of texture and a mixture of traditional and non-traditional painting materials and methods, Michelle fuses together intuitive drips with hard-edged lines to create visually dynamic compositions that are both complex and unified. She is concerned with integrating polarities: expressive and static, fluid and stable, and suggests through her work the importance of harmony in a culturally diverse and ever more integrated world.
Michelle currently resides in Sunnyside, Queens and has a studio in Long Island City.
