Artist Bio:

Stephen Davan is an artist and illustrator from the world of theater design.
His work has become a favorite of collectors within the Broadway community, and has been exhibited at historic venues including the Provincetown Art Association & Museum and New York's prestigious Salmagundi Club.

For over a decade Stephen has made his career as an associate scenic designer for theater, employing his skills in model building, graphic design, drafting, and illustration to help develop and adapt the designs for Broadway productions including "Angels in America," "Frozen," and the current world tour of "The Phantom of the Opera." As a designer for film & TV, his credits include "Severance" for Apple TV+ (Art Directors Guild Award) and "Elsbeth" for CBS.

As a visual artist, Stephen's work encompasses a variety of subjects—urban scenes, backstage life, the male figure—all rendered with a theatrical sensibility and careful draftsman's eye. A special attention to gay lives, histories, and desires runs through much of this body of work, most prominently in his rainbow hued "NYC Pride" series celebrating historic queer sites around New York City, and in his figure drawings exhibited at RISE:NYC, a gallery show showcasing rising queer artists.

Stephen is perhaps most at home depicting his colleagues from the world of theater. Strike The Ghost Light, his forthcoming graphic novel, will be inspired by his experiences working alongside stagehands, actors, and dancers onstage and behind the scenes.

A graduate of Columbia University, he is proud to have received The Varsity Show's I.A.L. Diamond Award for Achievement in the Arts.
