Artist Statement:

Sculpture is not only an act of creating art, but also a philosophy on living.  It is my belief that my artwork follows some means of the universal law of the Beauty and the Harmony.  I search for inspiration by watching for signs, messages, guidance, and information from everything that surrounds me, including nature, people, books, and all forms of art.

Drawing is the first stage in which my sculptures begin to take shape.  Sometimes the artwork transcends the known forms of the human figure and the nature, and begins shaping itself in a more abstract form.  Therefore, I consider myself a figurative and an abstract sculptor.  Some of my sculptures are close representations of the figure and obviously have more human feeling to it.  Either way both directions are acceptable and necessary for my development and evolution as an artist.

Important thought is the search for quality. Quality, which is proportional to the amount of time, effort and skills, must be made to the best of the artist’s ability.  The Ancient Greeks used the word “arête” for it. It seems clear that quality within a sculpture or any other artwork is best when viewers are left with feeling happy, thoughtful, and inspired. That is what I am working toward, every time I step into my studio and take pencil or clay in my hand.
