Artist Bio:
I am an artist and contractor. I picked up my skills on the job, starting from a young age working in a mechanics shop in my native El Salvador, packing and moving furniture, working in the fashion industry, in construction and art fabrication. I know how to use my hands and materials to create something. I have exhibited my sculptures and lighting around NYC, including a permanent sculpture commission for Afinia 50 Hotel and 2 public installations in NYC with Dept of Transportation.
Artist Statement:
My artwork is almost exclusively made of steel, and whenever possible, found metal materials. I aim to find and use all the scrap metal there is to be had in the neighborhoods of NYC I live and work in. I take pleasure in finding forms in nature and interpreting them in metal. I love the organic surface texture rows and rows of rebar and threaded bars can achieve. I make sculptures, sometimes large public installations and sculptural lighting. www.pedrovillalta.com
