Montserrat Daubón is an artist living and working in NYC. Montserrat studied painting, drawing and sculpture at the Art Students League of NY, where she now works as an instructor. A 2 time winner of the Elizabeth Greenshields Artist Grant, Montserrat’s work is part of many private collections, she has exhibited widely, including a solo museum show (‘Scapes, 2011, San Luis Obispo Museum of Art) and created and exhibited a monumental public sculpture in NYC (Shipwreck, 2015, NYC DOT.)
Artist Statement:
I make art because it is the best way for me to be present in and engage with my surroundings and to communicate about the experience through image, object and material. Tensions I think about in the work are presence-impermanence, isolation-connection, specificity-universality. Working in ceramics is a culmination of my interests and experience thinking about material, texture, form and color; and there is nothing more meditative nor primordial than having your hands in clay.
