Artist Bio:
Mafe Izaguirre (Caracas, 1978) is a New York–based artist working at the intersection of art and technology. Her practice explores human–machine hybridization through cybernetic artifacts, installations, and performative systems. Her work incorporates participatory frameworks in which audiences and collaborators engage with the systems she develops.
Artist Statement:
I create experimental cybernetic systems that explore the exchanges between humans and machines. I am interested in the byproduct that emerges from the interaction itself.
It is within this dimension that I explore the linguistic residues that manifest from feedback: resonance, echo, and noise. My work unfolds through dynamics in which meaning flows and hybridizes, allowing hidden and unknown connections inherent to shared expression to become tangible and operable material.
In my work, the audience acts as an active component of the system, an agent that expands the field of inquiry toward collective configurations. I conceive of the human as inherently hybrid, intertwined within systems and environments that extend and redistribute perception.
I approach technology as a syncretic cultural language, one that must be continuously interpreted, negotiated, and recontextualized within collective environments shaped by plurality and coexistence.
