Artist Bio:
Jade Chan is a New York based artist, born and raised in Amsterdam of Chinese heritage. She earned her BFA in Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2010. Jade has worked in fashion, graphic and web design prior to full-time commitment as an abstract painter. Chan has lived and worked in Amsterdam, London and Hong Kong before settling in New York. She now works from a studio in Long Island City.
Artist Statement:
I am an abstract painter working with oil on canvas. With my observation of shapes, form and color, I use art to resolve internal conflicts. Born in progressive Netherlands, from a strict Chinese family, I felt like an outsider, not belonging to either culture. Past and present experiences drives each work and my creative process is part subconscious, part planned and part spontaneous.
