Artist Bio:
Giorgi Dolidze is a multi-media artist based in New York. In 2004 he graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Art where he earned his Master degree in Monumental and Decorative Art. Giorgi’s work is based on his experience as a Georgian growing up in a society that has gone through a collapse of government, war, and transitioning to a new way of living. His work deals with one’s experience in a changing society as well as the sufferings of a person. Giorgi uses sculptures to express his feelings of existential dread in a modern world that is constantly filled with human suffering sprinkled with human joy.
Artist Statement:
Giorgi Dolidze uses paint, plaster, metal and clay to create images that are an exploration of the human self and the fluidity of the human form. His work centers on the experience of life in today’s society and how it affects the human psyche as well as the physical. By combining mixed materials, he is able to express his own personal experiences, feelings, and interactions with those around him through a physical manifestation of form. Giorgi’s work features different parts of a human body to show both the suffering as well as the joy of living this life.
