Artist Bio:
Finn Miller is a multi-disciplinary visual artist based in Queens. She holds a B.A. in English from Brooklyn College and in 2023, she was awarded a Tow International Research Grant to study the art of Tintin comics in Brussels, Belgium. Last year she was awarded a merit scholarship to study printmaking full time at the Art Student’s League of New York. Her paintings and prints have been shown in many Brooklyn and Queens galleries, and her first animated short film The Penny Prophecy will screen at MoMA this June.
Artist Statement:
My paintings, animations, and lithograph prints are rooted in self-reflection, personal symbolism and narrative storytelling. I like to explore that absurd-feeling tension between an artists’ interior/exterior life, as well as the artist’s (sometimes awkward) journey towards truth and self-transformation in a social context. Self-portrait and autobiographical writing are used as a starting point to create narrative images which reflect a larger collective unconscious. In the tradition of other self-mythologizing artists like Walt Whitman, Gertrude Stein, Alison Bechdel, or Bob Fosse, my work is psychological, experimental, often humorous, and completely autobiographical.
