View From the Bed, 2020

Artist: Ellen Sturm Niz Medium: Ink on Paper Dimensions: 11 x 14" Price: $85 Every year I look forward to watching the leaves bud and unfold on the trees outside my windows in Jackson Heights. This year, I was able to watch them even more intently as we spent most of our time sheltered in our apartments. In late April, as I sleepily spent another morning sipping coffee in bed, I sketched a representation of the view from my bed, imagining the people like me behind the windows across the way, watching the world unfold as we could never have expected. Artist Statement: Ellen Sturm Niz is an emerging mixed media artist and performer, employing stone, wood, textiles, paint, and photography in her sculptures and collages. Her work explores how creativity and craft can encourage mindfulness, inspire inner reflection, and bring joy. The goal of her work is to connect us to ourselves and others, highlighting our shared experiences. Ellen lives and works in Jackson Heights, Queens, with her husband and daughter.
