Allison Green
A research-driven artist and writer, I create mixed media sculptures that excavate the hidden relationships between everyday objects and personal identities. I am currently focusing on domesticity, modes of femininity, and the histories and methodologies of craft.
I use traditional techniques I learned as a costume maker and garment worker (draping, quilting, embroidery, dressmaking, laundry, etc.) to create both abstract sculptures, and works representational of familiar household objects like furniture, clothing, and kitchen tables. My materials span from antique handkerchiefs, garment remnants, and other fabrics, to dollhouse pieces, to miniatures I fabricate from clay. I engage in rigorous material culture research to illustrate the narratives that my work connects to.
