The Truck paintings: In my travels I often take photographs that capture a personal experience or observation. I then crop the photos to create a more graphic image, unusual vantage point or composition. I edit the unnecessary details concentrating on color, shapes, gesture and point of view. There may be literary or historical references to the imagery, but my goal is to convey the essence of that subject as it appears in my memory.
The Still Lifes and Cabinet of Curiosities series of paintings are subjects taken from nature and composed as if they are precious objects. The paintings often incorporate an elements of the unexpected like sand, paper or textiles.
As Edward Degas said, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
