Robert Lobe

My color photographs result from an ongoing process of exploration, discovery and selection in New York City and other complex urban environments. The images are based on my careful observation of street level details to which people typically pay little attention. Such close focus can reveal unexpected beauty, mystery and meaning. Photographs result when particular constellations of color, texture, shape and visual rhythm resonate with me on emotional and aesthetic levels. The heavily layered surfaces in my work attest to the restless energies and perpetual reinvention of a great metropolis.
