Pilar Lagos

My art explores the themes of memory, change, family, culture and health.

Art allows me to surrender my obsession with perfectionism while mixed media grants me the ideal space to express myself using a variety of materials, such as photography, paper, and paint.

In early 2021, I suffered an unexpected brain trauma, which prompted me to take my art practice in a different direction. I began drawing distorted portraits to release the physical pain in a very tangible way, and ultimately it helped me in my recovery.

As an artist, I want to use my experience as a third culture kid in combination with my health trauma to tell visual stories that can inspire others to express themselves too.
