Nancy Nieves
I am a Puerto Rican self-taught artist who was born and raised on the Lower East Side. When I paint, I alternate between a paintbrush and my fingertips. I mostly work with acrylic or markers but always in bold colors. Perhaps having grown up so timid, even into my early adulthood, I no longer care to hold back when it comes to decorating my canvas. I don't always know what the end result will be but the beginning of my creative process stems from what inspires me; a song, a musical, a poem, a dream. Street art is also a big influence on me and I revel in its in your face quality. Recently I've taken to creating artwork with women as the focal point, exposing their complexity with emotional, courageous and staggering color.
