Artist Bio:
Nancy Bruno is a New York-based artist and educator whose dynamic body of work spans ceramics, found objects, and mixed media. Her art explores the interplay of material and form to express emotional complexity, contradiction, and cultural reflection.
Nancy began her artistic journey through the study of architecture, later earning her MFA from Queens College. She received a full scholarship to attend the Chautauqua School of Art and has participated in notable ceramic workshops, including Peters Valley Craft Center (NJ), the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen (China), and a residency at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. Her involvement in archaeological digs in Israel and Serbia further deepened her interest in material objects' historical and cultural dimensions.
In collaboration with artist Gina Minelli, Nancy co-founded the Beacon of Pluralism Project, an initiative reflecting diversity, tolerance, and religious freedom in the Queens community. The project was funded by the Ruben Foundation through the Action Art: SPQ Grant and was featured in the 2018 publication Art as Social Action: An Introduction to the Principles and Practices of Teaching Social Practice Art, edited by Gregory Sholette, Chloe Bass, and Social Practice Queens.

Artist Statement:
Objects carry meaning. They connect to personal experience and cognitive frameworks, reflecting our shared existence and the continual, mutual influence we have on one another. In my work, the materiality and form of objects serve as conduits for expressing the layered complexities and tensions of contemporary life.
Through my practice, I recontextualize classical symbols through a contemporary feminist lens, challenging dominant narratives and provoking dialogue around autonomy, empowerment, and resistance. My work is a call to action, a reminder that the struggle for freedom is ongoing, and that collective voices hold the power to spark meaningful and lasting change.
