Artist Statement:
My recent work reflects an ongoing exploration of how drawing and painting work together (or against one another). Some areas look scribbly and haphazard, and others cohesive, united by copacetic colors. Certain colors clash, while others harmonize. Parts of the paintings are congested with lots of lines, and sometimes larger areas are inhabited by a single background color. It’s as if they cannot come to an agreement.
Most recently, actual letterforms and text have surfaced, only to be subsumed by lines and colors, or changed and muted by way of rearrangement and re-ordering (think William S. Burroughs' "cut-ups")
