Artist Bio:

Jules Seo is a Korean-born, New York–based new media artist whose work  explores cultural phenomena through photography, film, and painting.  Working in a realist style, they use both lens-based and traditional  media to examine themes of identity, memory, and resistance. Their  recent paintings feature head portraits of Korean freedom fighters  during the Japanese colonial period, rendered in silk-screen on canvas.  Their latest photography series, Eclipse at Socrates Park, continues  their exploration of history and visual storytelling.

Seo studied photography and fashion design at the Fashion Institute of  Technology and later pursued filmmaking at New York University. Known  for their avant-garde design sensibility, their work has been exhibited  at the Museum of the Moving Image, Queens Museum, Fashion Institute of  Technology Museum, LIC Arts Open, and TG 170 boutique. They have also  been featured in publications such as Billboard and K48 Magazine.

Artist Statement:

I am a new media artist from Korea, currently based in New York. My work  explores cultural phenomena and identity through photography, film, and  painting. Working in a realist style, I use both lens-based and  traditional mediums to observe and question the social and historical  forces that shape our lives.

Whether through the intimacy of portraiture or the stillness of  landscapes, my practice reflects a deep interest in the tension between  personal memory and collective history. By bridging digital and physical  forms, I seek to create spaces for reflection, conversation, and  connection across cultures and generations.
