Artist Bio:
Ethan Gould is an artist living in New York. A graduate of the University of Rochester with an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, Ethan works in multimedia with a focus on speculative worlds and anatomy, with clients in print, games, theater, 2D art, and television. He is the art director for the rpg Stillfleet.
Artist Statement:
Ethan Gould’s art is focused on textural patterns and the human head: as an object, the seat of perception and consciousness, and a subject of scientific, anatomical and art history. His work is concerned with the difficulties of subject and object: in discourse, story, and self-conception. Using repetition of increasingly simplified and accreted headforms and patterns made material, it draws attention to the personal qualities of being a subject while sensorily overwhelmed by categorical connections between person, place, and thing.
