Artist Bio:

Diego Best is a Queens-based freelance illustrator working in mixed  media. He earned his BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology in  2020. Diego has collaborated with various ministries, denominations, and  independent brands and startups. His creative goal is to write,  illustrate, and publish original short stories that explore religious  and existential themes while capturing the simplicity and beauty of  everyday life.

Artist Statement:

Growing up in a devout Catholic household, my main source of  entertainment and inspiration was manga, books, anime, cartoons, films,  and music. When I began attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in  2016, I eventually discovered surreal painters, international comic  book artists, and independent filmmakers who have profoundly impacted my  aesthetic and message.

Therefore, inspired by the style of these modern storytellers, I started  to experiment with rendering my drawings traditionally and painting  those images digitally in class. By 2021, I invested in an Apple iPad  and MacBook Pro to streamline the process.

My desire with my art is to create contemporary myths that point to  objective truth, while sparking thoughtful and engaging conversation  around spiritual matters.
