Erika Lyn Horwitz

My work is part of the “fluid art” movement. I paint with a variety of different types of paints such as latex, acrylic and oil and I mix the paints with other non-paint chemicals. (And I try to use repurposed paint, chemicals and canvasses as much as I can to be eco-friendly). I use brushes, straws, droppers, pipettes, whisk rollers, turkey basters and many other tools to apply the paint to the canvas. This produces a variety of effects such as layering, swirling, lacing and striation of paint, the formation of cell-like objects and other effects. Many aspects of the final work are intentional while others are less controlled. For me, these effects are an exploration of the interplay between intentionality and accident.
