I suppose light is what attracts me most. It's a truth that can't be ignored. It helps define time, color, mood, and the transitory moment of the subject. The challenge and reward of oil paint has always thrilled me. I find them stubborn and confusing, yet somehow forgiving. It's a mystery I haven't always had the time or space to pursue.
I've made my actual living in the NY theatre for the past several decades. The darkness of the Covid pandemic closures have forced my focus to the brightness of painting.
I find several parallels in the two art forms. The discipline of being free and conscientious simultaneously is the common pursuit, it seems. I cherish that in this often unaesthetic world works of expression still affect, still move, still please, still have relevance.
