A. King McCarty
A. King McCarty is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Astoria, Queens. Inspired by the themes, design and colors found in the fanciful realms of performing arts, Dada, folk and comic art as well as nature, environmental and social factors, AKM uses a multitude of techniques to create pieces that are both natural and fantastic.
For the past year AKM's primary focus has been on the "Splendid Astoria" project: a series of drawings made with colored pencil, ink and watercolor, with accompanying journal entries, focusing on the details, both small and large, that make Astoria and Queens such a magical place to call home. As a recipient of the Queens Council on the Arts “ArtHotel” grant, AKM is the resident artist at SpringHill Suites, LaGuardia thru Spring 2018.
