‘Boundaries and Secrets’
This new work began in working in the square format. The opportunities and limitations of exploring the square shape required me to find a new visual vocabulary, and a new way of constructing an image. They allowed me to work more abstractly with an economy of image and form. While there might be references to architectural space or landscape, the works begin primarily as studies of color through the process of layering ink, watercolor, or collage. Particular attention has been given to the edges, within the work, or at the borders of the image. Through this process, I found mysteries unfolding in the work and a narrative beyond the abstraction.
