Jim Schutte

Sculpture has been about depiction through mass and space. The only thing I want from it is its real space, its real physical gesture.

Painting, on the other hand, has been largely illusionistic, allowing much greater creative freedom. The only thing I want from painting is its creative freedom. It is visual fantasy.

By combining just these two things: mass-less, pure physical gesture from sculpture with the visual freedom of painting, what do you end up with?
