Jeanne Ostrow
Penetrating observations and a keen eye attuned to nature’s ebb and flow play a powerful part in Jean Ostrow’s paintings. She is best known for her atmospheric and mysterious water scenes, inspired by her extensive world travels, but more often than not , she is drawn back to the waterscapes of Bridgehampton, Long Island where she has lived part time for the last twenty years. Influenced by Turner, Whistler and the American Luminists, her works focus on the intermingling of sea, sky and shifting light.
Jean majored in Fine Arts at Boston University, where upon graduating she entered the fashion industry in New York City, eventually transitioning into interior design where her creative multidisciplinary background was finessed. Her artistic passions and love of oil shifted her focus back to painting and lead to further study at The Art Student’s League and National Academy of Fine Arts.
Jean’s paintings have been exhibited numerous group show. She is married with two children and currently resides in New York, working from her studio in Long Island City.
