Helaine Soller
“Water Environments” an expressionist series of acrylic paintings, focuses on an intimate view of nature emphasizing abstract qualities of color, shape, and patterns of light. Water plants, koi fish, and reflective water elements become metaphors of renewal, life cycles, regeneration, belief systems, endurance, peace, contemporary struggles for survival, and the fragility of our ecosystems. My style combines expressionism, realism and abstraction. By emphasizing the beauty and drama of natural forms, and interpreting environments unfolding at a moment in time, I seek to incorporate awareness of nature into everyday environments. I work with corporate curators, building managers and interior designers to create large-scale works.
Helaine Soller’s artwork is included in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts Archives. Awarded an Individual Artist Initiative 2008, from the Queens Council on the Arts Her art has been shown at the Long Island Museum of Art Stony Brook, Queens Museum, Bronx Museum, Canajoharie Museum, Museum of Anthropology of the People of New York, PS 1, The Galleries at Citigroup Center Midtown NY, Berkeley Gallery Manhattan, the Joseph P. Addabbo Federal Building, Queens NY, Tower 49, Midtown NY, Exit Art, Queens College Art Center,17 solo exhibitions, and 100 group exhibitions in galleries, museums and corporations nationally. Her work is in corporate and private collections.
Helaine Soller a Queens New York resident, attended Pratt Institute (BFA in Advertising Design) and Queens College (MS in Art Education) studied at the New School with Jacob Lawrence, and in master classes with Jerome Witkin and Eric Fischl.
