I work with abstract and figurative elements to create a dialogue between them. I like to think of the figure as the self: a representation of the human condition. I depict this humanity in many different ways. Through portraits communicating our most intimate feelings, through bodies to tell about eroticism, and sometimes the figure is a mere brushstroke within the city, where our humanity gets lost in the overwhelming vastness of our lives.
My abstractions represent the mind. My process is intuitive and I allow the shapes to appear where they seem to belong. Squares, circles, lines, scratches and stains are emotions and ideas projected by the figure, the story we tell to help us make sense of it all. At times a pedestrian walks in pure abstraction, making the city emerge around him.
