Through my painting, I explore the indexed meaning of form in relation to art history and human psychology. This “indexed meaning” pulls from the modernist narrative as well as Jungian psychology without losing sight of the ratio-centric. I believe this conceptual foundation allows for a process-based diagnosis and reconstruction of the modernist unconscious toward a critique of bias.
The visual elements in my work are often symbolic: placeholders-for and extensions-of enduring perceptual forms. Line is a primal channel, color dictates space, and the texture of oil paint seduces the eye into a haptic experience. Combining these elements produces paintings that are sapped of romanticism- existing somewhere between dystopian landscapes and diagrams of cognition.
