I focus on intuitively building structure, creating pieces that are mute objects, free of content, meaning or memory, having the function of a mirror mirroring the observer's desire while providing for a common vocabulary based on intellectual and, or personal experiences of the observer. In this series "Creatures" objects are not a copy or a representation of nature, nor are they a reference to the artist's objective or emotional worlds. Initially the objects are created without an outline or sketch. The original form is based only on volume and color; the idea of the object is just a shadow in my mind. I start by building a "skeleton" in Japanese handmade paper (Kozo fiber) using interlocking parts, tabs and slots, cuts, in a similar way as to Kirigame. Following this initial construct, the surface is modeled with several layers of strips of paper soaked in glue, and finally, to compose tones woodcut prints on handmade paper are added as well as beeswax to create texture. This "uncontrolled" process while preserving the purity of the idea.
