Born in Hong Kong, Stephanie Liu is an immigrant artist who spent half of her life in Hong Kong, and half in America. At age 13, she began a 2-year study of western painting, followed by another year of modern Chinese painting. It is a blend of western and Chinese art, plus impressionism, that influence her the most. Her journey to pursue art was interrupted in 1976, her freshman year in upstate NY, when she was sexually attacked by an art professor. She stopped painting and focused her energy on anti-rape issues, set up the first women's center, and lobbied for legislative reforms to bring about social changes in Hong Kong. After two decades of social activism, she decided to pursue art again in 2003 and was greatly encouraged by three painting awards from NY State Court Employees Art Shows. Statement-Art is my means to commemorate my past, to capture my cherished moments in the present, and to empower myself for the future. I hope to create an artistic memoir of my life by capturing the most beautiful moments in different stages of my life and my love of nature.
