I love objects; salt and pepper shakers, beds and pillows, vases, often turn up in my photographs and paintings as metaphors for figures.
The key to my work is the way I use negative spaces as transition points between forms. My forms are recognizable and clearly defined, yet there is a sense of layering and under painting just beneath the surface. I use color to define form and volume, line to suggest movement. Although color is not the central theme of my work, it is essential for weaving together disparate parts and unifying the whole.
I am primarily a painter and I also work in photography, printmaking and public art as a means to communicate across cultural borders. My painting and printmaking as well as work in public art often refer to my photographs and my photographs are often mistaken for paintings.
